Yesteryear is making a come back

NEIGHBORHOOD FRIENDS... As a reminder of yesteryear when communities were closely connected, children in the neighborhood are having a lemonade stand today on Susquehanna Drive starting at 12 noon.

Be sure to drop by and buy. They're offering cups of lemonade AND bottles of water for 25 cents.

Let's support these future entrepreneurs.

NEED VOLUNTEERS and NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH

Following the news of one of our own neighbors losing their son in Iraq brings to light a great need within our neighborhood. We are asking possibly YOU, our neighbor, to step forward to be a "Sunshine Committee" person. (The name can change). Will you volunteer today?

If you would like to volunteer, come to our meeting on Sept 15th, 7PM (call 714-2772 for directions) and step forward to be the "Sunshine Committee" Chairperson. We'd love to have you. At that time, we can discuss what we can do for others in the future. If something else interests you, please speak up. We know your talents are valuable and we'll always have a place for you in our neighborhood volunteer group.

Our ideas for the "Sunshine Committee" in the past was to have someone welcoming all new neighbors to the neighborhood with a welcoming basket with a copy of a flier outlining our FB, Website, NL, Meeting Info, and a past copy of a newsletter. Additional duties would be if members pass away or have serious illnesses, we'd send cards or drop by to connect personally. I think any of you would be wonderful at this... and the time devoted would be minimal... but would make a most positive impact.

Additionally, we are looking for individuals to sign up to be block captains, or volunteer to ask their fellow neighbors if they'd like to be the block captain. Responsibilities of a block captain are:
  • Visits assigned homes (10-15) to sign residents up for the program.
  • Acts as a liaison between the Coordinator and his/her area of responsibility and disseminates
  • information communicated to him/her which may assist the police.
  • When new residents move in, invite them to join the program.
  • Hand out crime prevention literature, etc. as needed.
  • Maintains regular contact with the Coordinator.

Re-organizational Meeting NEXT WED. (Sept 15th, 7PM)

All,

A couple of neighbors, who were so supportive in placing signs out for the league over the years, hiccuped. We will NOT be meeting TOMORROW (Thursday) as we have traditionally done so. We are in the re-organizational phase of the CAFCL volunteer group, and from meetings in the past have decided to meet every every 3 months on the first Tuesday starting November 2nd.

WE WILL HAVE A RE-ORGANIZATIONAL MEETING on Sept 15th, 7 PM. It is at a private residence, so RSVPs are required so we know how many people to expect. You may email cafcivicleague@yahoo.com or call Brenda Armitage @ 714-2772.

Regarding the signs, since we have to change the date stamp on the signs, they were removed from display by one of our new officers (Peggy Farrell). Once they are corrected, we will be looking for the same or new neighbors to resume their efforts in supporting our league.

If you are on Facebook, we encourage every neighbor to connect with Carolanne Farm - Arrowhead Neighbors group page as that is where many postings between CAFCL and neighbors occur. If you are not, please consider joining just to be informed immediately as to what is going on in the neighborhood. The FB group page is totally controlled by neighbors and is the place where people post if they lost a pet, have experienced crime, or want to organize a yard sale. It's a free-flowing social networking site and is maintained by YOU - THE NEIGHBORS.

Thanks and hope to see those who have RSVPd YES next Wednesday ♥ Call Brenda Armitage @ 714-2772 if you have any questions.

Thank you for your service Spc. Matthew Eric George

Neighbors...

We have been informed of the sad news that a family on Gainsborough lost their son, Spc. Matthew Eric George, in Iraq. Matthew gave his life as a soldier so that we citizens can enjoy the freedom and security of living in our United States. Our hearts and prayers are with the family.

The entire article can be read at: http://hamptonroads.com/2010/09/virginia-beach-soldier-killed-afghanistan.

Our CAFCL temporary neighborhood liaison, Brenda Armitage, will make a visit to the family to pay our respects.

From MPO Leta Krieger, our 4th Prec. Crime Prevention Officer

Hi everyone, I know I typically focus on crime prevention matters, but I am going to deviate a bit (I just want you all to stay safe and out of harm’s way J). Hurricane Earl is headed towards the East Coast and as to whether or not it will make landfall in or near Hampton Roads is still uncertain. Either way, it is currently a Category 4 storm, and two other storm systems are churning up just behind Earl. We do have a couple days to prepare. You can get a list of needed emergency supplies and maps of storm surge areas and evacuation routes by visiting: http://www.readyvirginia.gov/
