• Please, be sure to lock your cars.
• Lock your sheds.
• Lock your homes.
• Call the police if you see teens walking the streets when you know they are supposed to be in school, or other suspicious persons or activity. Share information such as: what happened, when, where, if anyone is hurt, license numbers and descriptions of any vehicles, direction of travel, descriptions of suspect(s), and if there are any weapons involved.
  
• If you do experience a break in, no matter if did or did not have items taken from your home or vehicle, CALL THE POLICE (385-5000 Non-Emergency#). The police can not connect the dots if you don't give them the "push pins for their cork board", now known as the neighborhood crime database.
• Also, are you signed up for Nixle's crime alert bulletins?

Watching out and helping out is a key aspect of Crime Prevention. Remember to watch out for your neighbors and report any suspicious activity. The police cannot be everywhere. Successful deterrence depends on citizen cooperation and involvement. Many crimes would never be committed if more citizens were alert to suspicious activity in their neighborhood or if they acted on what they saw. If you do not want personal contact with the responding officer, say so when you call.

The most important information needed by the police is: what happened, when, where, if anyone is hurt, license numbers and descriptions of any vehicles, direction of travel, descriptions of suspect(s), and if there are any weapons involved.

By acting quickly and calmly, your request for police service could foil a crime, help to identify suspects involved in other crimes or deter a criminal act by letting potential suspects know that you and your neighbors are alert to suspicious activity, suspicious vehicles and suspicious persons.

Fairfield Garden Club Plant Sale

Free Self Defense Workshop Saturday, May 8th

Please see the attached information on the upcoming “Best Defense” self-defense workshop which will be held on Saturday, May 8^th, from 1 – 4 p.m. at the Bow Creek Rec Center (for directions, click here: Bow Creek). This program will provide both personal safety tips and hands-on instruction, and is free and open to the public. You do not need to be a Rec Center member to attend. Please see the attached news release for more details and feel free to share the attached flyer with neighbors, family and friends. Space is limited, so if you plan on attending, register right away! If you already have a membership bar code, you can register online; otherwise, you can simply call any of the Rec Centers to register.

CAN YOU TAKE ON AN OFFICER POSITION?

Dear Neighbor,

Your neighborhood organization, Carolanne Farm Civic League is at a serious impasse. If we do not have volunteers stepping forward at our March, April and May meetings to take on officer positions, we may become dormant and community activities such as the traditional Spring Egg-straveganza and the 4^th of July Parade will cease to exist. Additionally, we may be forced to discontinue our newsletter. Although very disheartening to current and past league officers, without new volunteers, the current level of league services are unsustainable.

We need officers for all positions to take charge for the second half of 2010 and other positions starting in 2011, which are President, Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary, and Membership Chair. Additionally, we must have a level of participation during meetings, whether they continue monthly, or every quarter.

Seriously consider the affects of loss of neighborhood representation within City if we become dormant. Benefits of our CAFCL Neighborhood Organization at risk are:

· LOSS OF SCHLORSHIPS – Currently established $500 scholarship opportunities for all High School seniors residing within our neighborhoods

· LOSS OF ANTI-CRIME NETWORK – Reduction of crime through information sharing and networking – crime bulletins, email blasts, city service announcements, Facebook networking

· LOSS OF BEAUTIFICATION PROGRAMS – Secret Helpers project to help those in need and to keep our neighborhoods beautiful

· LOSS OF PROPERTY MAINTENANCE CODE ENFORCEMENT – Maintaining beauty and the active enforcement of maintenance codes keeps our property values up. In times like these, we cannot afford to let our neighborhood slip down that very slippery slope, especially in times of financial slowdown.

· LOSS OF A COMMUNITY ADVOCATE – Acting as a communication body and liaison between City and neighbors during serious neighbor-to-neighbor disputes and other neighborhood concerns

· LOSS OF OUR QUARTERLY NEWSLETTER – Creation and distribution of “The Horse and Carriage” neighborhood newsletter offering most read crime reports, but also to announcing upcoming neighborhood and road development progress and concerns, historical facts, social events, and much more

· LOSS OF TRADITION – Spring Egg-straveganza, 4^th of July Parade, Holiday Social, Share Your Light Night luminary event

Membership is needed, but without volunteers, we can do very little with the money raised from membership. Sustainability cannot be successful if only a handful of people do the work for nearly 2000 residences. It is not feasible. So, please understand that NOW IS THE TIME for you and your neighbor to step forward and offer your talents and time. Let us maintain pride in our neighborhoods. Let everyone be part of the solution, and spread the glue that keeps our neighborhood strong and prosperous.

Attend the next three meetings (March 11^th, April 8^th, and May 13^th) and as we evaluate the level of participation and officer appointments, at the end of May’s meeting a decision will be made to either become dormant or revitalize to level close to what we experienced some years ago when we revitalized.
