Dedication- The Virginia Beach Central Library will be formally dedicated and named the Meyera E. Oberndorf Central Library at 10:30 am Wednesday April 29. A ceremony will be held at the library , 4100 Virginia Beach Blvd, featuring Mayor William D. Sessoms Jr. & former mayor Oberndorf.
Gone to the Dogs-The Department of Parks and Recreation presents the K-9 Karnival from 10am to 3pm. Sat. May 9 at Red Wing Park. 1398 General Booth Blvd. The event features exhibits, demonstrations, an agility course and frisbee competition, canine rescue organizations, a rabies clinic (offering reduced-rate vaccinations) and more. Family Friendly Eco Event-The Department of Parks & Recreation and Virginia Beach Clean Community Commission present Earth Day 2009 from 11am-5pm on Sun. May 3 at Mt. Trashmore Park. The event features interactive exhibits and activities, plastic bag recycling, a biking event, an eCycling event for residents to recycle old computers, electronics and other related peripherals (like ink cartridges), and more. Security Alert
Hello everyone,
I receive daily bulletins from the 4th Precinct crime analysts which contain information on various crimes that have been reported each day throughout the 4th precinct. The bulletin I received today contains eight reports of residential burglaries/attempted burglaries – and this is for just one daily report. This grabbed my attention and I wanted to make sure that you and your friends, neighbors and families are taking extra steps to protect your homes, property, and yourselves. The burglaries mentioned occurred in the following neighborhoods and I have included streets, dates and times, and basic MO’s:
Level Green, 1000 block of Commonwealth Place; Date/time of occurrence: 3/19 – 3/26/09 between midnight - 6:30 pm. The rear patio door was smashed out; a laptop, ring and cell phone were stolen.
Charlestown Lakes South, 2000 block of Tanner Court; Date/time of occurrence: 3/25/09 between 10:00 am – 4:30 pm. Attempted burglary – suspect cut two rear window screens and tried to kick in rear door.
Brigadoon, 5200 block of Bagpipers Lane; Date/time of occurrence: 3/25 – 3/26/09 between 9:00 am – 12:48 pm. Attempted burglary – two males were seen walking around victim’s house, peering into windows. Rear screened porch was found damaged.
Acredale, 5100 block of Langston Road; Date/time of occurrence: 3/26/09 between 9:00 – 11:30 am. When victim returned home, the front door was found unlocked and slightly open; currency, jewelry, and Wii game were stolen.
Colony Oaks, 4700 block of Green Law Drive; Date/time of occurrence: 3/26/09 between 8:30 am – 3:45 pm. Front door was ajar when victim returned home from work; crystal bowl by front door was broken on floor, no property missing.
Midway Manor, 900 Dauntless Run; Date/time of occurrence: 3/19 – 3/26/09 between midnight - 6:30 pm. When victim returned home, rear kitchen window was discovered open, screen removed. Wii game, two televisions, two laptop computers, video games, camera and keyboard were taken.
Midway Manor, Yorktown Blvd.; Date/time of occurrence: 3/26/09 between 6:30 am – 5:00 pm. When victim returned home, screen to rear window was removed and all doors were open. Two video games and a laptop were stolen.
Chimney Hill, 3500 block Chimney Hill Court; Date/time of occurrence: 3/25/09 between 6:40 am – 5:30 pm. Suspect(s) pried lock to gain entry. Xbox, 3 laptops, router and several video games were stolen.
Please remain vigilant about home security, and remind those around you to do the same. And please remember to look out for one another! Call the Police Non-emergency number (385-5000) immediately to report any suspicious individuals or activity you might see. I have attached a copy of Home Security self-assessment form which you can use to find out what you need to do to improve the security of your home. If you would like another copy of the Home Security booklet. please let me know. If you do not have a Neighborhood Watch program in your area, now is a great time to start one up.
