Please click on the above link and review the alarming video. It depicts a teen pulling 12 guns from his baggy jeans and untucked shirt. The guns were undetectable. If our schools are not implementing a "TUCK YOUR SHIRT" policy in their dress codes, would you want to start a petition to show the school board we want changes to be made to protect our youth by insisting all children tuck their shirts into their pants? With the violence in today's society and what happened at Virginia Tech, we can no longer take chances. What do you think? We want to hear from you.

Virginia Beach Council of Civic Organizations, Inc.

I would like to offer a very informative link to an organization we, as a league are members. This organization is commonly called "CCO" and refers the Virginia Beach Council of Civic Organizations, Inc.

The CCO was chartered to educate member civic leagues about how better their community and how to ensure their voice is heard. Their Community Empowerment Taskforce provides regular programs on topics of interest to members and also serves as a mentor to members.

Please feel free to bookmark this site as they may post important issues that we, as your CCO representatives, are expected to vote on.

Most recently, there was a discussion and vote on tax rate reccommendations which will be sent to Jim Spore, the City Manager and Va. Beach City Council members. Please come to the next CAF meeting to hear a little about what the CCO body decided by vote.

Internet Safety

CyberTipline Report
Has your child ever been sent inappropriate material by someone he or she met online? Has your child ever inadvertently encountered inappropriate material? These are all types of child sexual exploitation. Make a report at CyberTipline.com or by calling 1.800.THE.LOST if you have information that will help in our fight against child sexual exploitation. I have placed this link under SAFETY to the right for future use.

APRIL MEETING CANCELLED

Hello All!

Unfortunately, the April meeting will be cancelled. Point of View booked the date in conflict with their Spring Break and will not have anyone available to open the school for our use. We received this information on Friday and apologize for any inconvenience the short notice may cause. Please pass the word to your neighbors.

Please join us for our next meeting May 8th at Point of View Elementary. The topic will be Hurricane Preparation with a guest speaker from the Red Cross. Don't forget to join us tomorrow for the Spring Eggstravaganza. See details below.

Coming up May 5th we will also, have a neighborhood wide yard sale so start going through all of those things just taking up space. The League will pay for the advertising all you have to do is bring your items out to your lawn. We are working on having a company like Salvation Army or the one for Military that leave bags on our doors come by after the yard sale with trucks to pick up anything left that you would like to donate instead of storing again.

Have a great holiday!

EGG-STRAVAGANZA WILL BE ON NO MATTER THE WEATHER

Since it is unclear as to whether we will have rain or snow, Carrow Baptist has opened the church to set up the games booths indoors for the Spring Egg-Stravaganza. Come one, come all no matter the weather. The time will remain the same; 10 AM - 2 PM. The Egg Hunt will be cancelled if the weather is uncooperative, however filled eggs will be given to all children in attendance.

Virginia Beach to Host “Operation Chain Reaction” a Regional Public Safety Training Exercise

Release Date: Tuesday, March 27, 2007 11:30 a.m.
On Tuesday, April 3, 2007 the City of Virginia Beach will host “Operation Chain Reaction” a full scale regional public safety training exercise, sponsored by the Hampton Roads Metropolitan Medical Response System (HRMMRS), to be held from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the Verizon Wireless Virginia Beach Amphitheater, located at 3550 Cellar Door Way in Virginia Beach.

The purpose of this event is to properly exercise the region’s emergency medical services system and preparing public safety personnel to respond to a major emergency incident in the Hampton Roads region.

Because this is a full-scale regional exercise it is anticipated that there will be a large volume of first responders, apparatus and emergency vehicles on site from all participating cities in the Hampton Roads region. The public should not be alarmed or concerned with the training exercise. For security and safety reasons, and to ensure no outside interference with the operations-based exercise, the Verizon Wireless Virginia Beach Amphitheater will be closed and the area surrounding the parking lots will be secured as well.

For more information, contact William K. Ginnow, at 963-0632, ext. 304.

Spring Egg-Stravaganza

I want to thank you all for donating so generously. Through financial donations, eggs, candy and manpower, I know this is going to be a spectacular event. Please contact us if you would like to volunteer in some way during the event. We could always use an extra set of hands, eyes and ears.

We want to thank LUCKY DOGZ on Princess Anne Road for coming forward and donating enough hot dogs to feed the large number of children we expect to attend. Please stop by for lunch and thank them in advance for their support and participation in this event. They are local businessmen and grew up in the Kempsville area.

See you April 7th from 10-2 on the grounds of Carrow Baptist Church.
